The Harmony Between Us

A novel about the bonds that hold families together, the faith that sustains them, and the music that heals what words cannot.

Some families talk. Some families pray. The ones who make it through learn to do both — and sometimes, when words run out, they learn to play.

The Harmony Between Us is a novel about the space between people — the gap where misunderstanding lives, where old hurts settle into the furniture, and where, if you're lucky and brave, love finds a way to bridge it. It's about family bonds that bend under the weight of real life and don't break. About faith that doesn't always arrive with answers, but shows up anyway, quiet and steady, like a song you forgot you knew.

And it's about music — the kind that heals what words cannot. The melody that says what a conversation couldn't. The harmony that finds two people who've been singing different songs and teaches them, slowly, to listen for the same chord. If you believe that families are held together by something stronger than blood — something closer to grace — this story is for you.

What readers will find

The themes at the heart of the book.

Family as harmony

The work of staying in tune with the people who know you best — and the grace required when someone goes off-key.

Faith that sustains

A spirituality woven into daily life — present, real, and relational rather than doctrinal.

Music as healing

The way a melody can reach what a conversation can't — the central metaphor and the heart of the book.

The bridge between people

What it takes to close the distance between the people who love each other most and understand each other least.

Resilience without easy answers

Hope that's earned, not handed out — the kind that survives a real season of struggle.

From the author

A note from Sy

The Harmony Between Us came from a question I couldn't shake: why is it that the people we love most are the ones we struggle hardest to hear? I've spent my life around music — writing it, leaning on it, letting it say what I couldn't — and I wanted to write a novel where music isn't decoration but the language grace uses when words run out. This is a book about family the way family actually is: beautiful, exasperating, sacred, and worth every attempt to stay in harmony. My faith is in these pages the way it's in my life — woven in, not preached. I hope it meets you wherever you are.

Love, Sy ~

A story about family that doesn't flinch from the hard parts and still leaves you hopeful. The music made me cry.
